For children 2 years 6 months to 6 years

Our Preschool program promotes socialization skills in a mixed age group setting, which places together students from all ages of early childhood.  As in a family, the youngest children in Mixed Aged Groups learn from the oldest, and the oldest develop leadership skills while nurturing others.  Each learns kindness and empathy.

Kindergarten Readiness is a complex process.  It does not begin and end during your child’s third year of preschool.  It begins the day your child starts school.  First, we will help your child master separation.  Next children learn to trust and allow other adults to care for them.  Once they master the initial phase of separation, socialization begins.  Play is hard work and it is the emphasis of your child’s first year in school.  In their second and third year, the desire for a deeper understanding of letters, words, and numbers emerges.

We integrate all branches of play into our core social studies curriculum, and promote creative forms of self-expression.  “Play helps us deal with difficulties, provides a sense of expansiveness, promotes mastery of our craft, and is an essential part of the creative process,” writes Dr. Stewart Brown, founder of the National Institute of Play.  “Most important, true play that comes from our own inner needs and desires is the only path to finding lasting joy and satisfaction in our work.  In the long run, work does not work without play.”

Every day at 10th Street, children understand how to make smart decisions about complicated issues, develop a larger sense of community awareness and personal responsibility, engage in effective means of communication and most importantly, become intrinsic learners who are willing to accept challenging tasks and always want to do their personal best.

We believe in promoting healthy life styles and our 10th Street community of parents, teachers and administrators work together; offering  delicious, healthy and organic snacks and meals every day.  Children are welcome to bring their own water bottles and keep them in their cubby.

The children frequently don school aprons to help prepare foods in our school kitchen.  Parents, who put on the adult school aprons, cook their favorite family recipes for the whole school on a weekly basis.  We have partnered with Citizens Sprout who provide catered organic ‘Hot Lunch’ five days/week.  There are always bowls of fresh fruit within reach.  And yes, for the special day in your child’s life, we allow small birthday celebrations.  Family members are invited to join us as well.
