10th Street continues to celebrate what it means to be good neighbors and involved community members: to take care of ourselves, our families, and our greater community. “Come from Kindness, Learn through Play” isn’t just a catch phrase, it’s our way of life. We believe that when kindness starts in the sandbox, it carries forward into each child’s world, wherever their feet may take them.
This year, we’re continuing a long history of working with an incredible local organization called Violence Intervention Program (VIP), a non-profit hospital-based treatment center for children and adults. VIP treats hundreds of children each month. Every day, VIP assists those who are about to begin their journey through the foster care system. Most of these children enter the program without even the most basic essentials, which for many includes a single pair of shoes.
This spring, 10th Street Pre-School worked with Crocs to secure their donation of 400 pairs to be given to children in need at VIP. Shoes are a critical and symbolic first step towards recovery for these children, who will now begin their journey with a new pair of durable, resilient, and beloved Crocs.
Our partnership with Crocs and VIP is a great example of how to come from kindness. By sharing our love with those in need, we organically teach our children how to be good neighbors and to care for others. Mr. Rogers would be so proud!
